The Veterans Welfare Group is proud to announce the appointment of Richard Williams as its Chief Medical Officer. A former Royal Navy medical officer with over two decades of service, Williams brings a wealth of experience in military healthcare, frontline medical leadership, and veteran advocacy.
With a background in military and veterans advocacy, as well as community support, Rich will play a key role in raising awareness and ensuring veterans know about the resources available to them. His involvement will also help expand the group’s efforts in rehabilitation, employment support, and mental health services. His understanding of the challenges veterans face will help the group strengthen its outreach and improve access to the Armed Forces Rehabilitation Pathway.
Rich Williams Joins the Mission to Support Veterans
Following his transition to civilian medicine, Richard has become a regional leader in head and neck cancer surgery, co-chairing a specialist cancer group focused on improving access to world-class treatment. He has led national research efforts, including a comprehensive audit on head and neck cancer follow-up care and the development of new hospital guidelines for managing severe nosebleeds. As the founder of INTEGRATE, a nationwide ENT (ear, nose, and throat) research network, he has played a pivotal role in advancing medical research and improving patient outcomes. His contributions to the field have earned him multiple awards, including Trainer of the Year and prestigious best paper and presentation prizes.
Transitioning from the military lifestyle to the civilian one can be one of the toughest challenges veterans face. In his new role as Chief Medical Officer of Veterans Welfare Group, Richard is dedicated to enhancing healthcare access, rehabilitation services, and long-term support for veterans. Leveraging his expertise in medical governance, policy, and research, he aims to advocate for evidence-based improvements in veterans’ healthcare pathways.
