Tinnitus and Hearing Loss
Unfortunately, the most common disability to affect military personnel is tinnitus – ‘Ringing in the ears’ and accompanying hearing loss.
It sounds different to each induvial, a buzz, a ringing, hissing, whistle, or even chirping sound. Tinnitus steals silence and makes it difficult to sleep, concentrate or relax and it can exclude you from social and professional situations.
Tinnitus, although annoying can be a warning sign of further hearing damage.
Exposure to prolonged and/or loud noise can affect the sensitive inner ear, cause irritation, perforated ear drums, repeated ear infections which may then go on to affect balance and mobility.
Hearing instruments may be required to help those with tinnitus and noise induced hearing loss, amplifying ambient sounds, covering the tinnitus and allowing you to focus on conversations and have a more effortless listening experience.
