Rugby for Heroes works in partnership with the rugby community to raise funds and awareness for Armed Forces personnel transitioning to civilian life. Through financial assistance, personal support and the power of sport, the charity helps veterans navigate the challenges of resettlement and find a renewed sense of purpose, connection and belonging.

Dean Phillips, Veterans Welfare Group’s Armed Forces Lead, is proud to serve as an ambassador for Rugby for Heroes. Through his passion for rugby, Dean champions the charity’s mission, encouraging veterans and members of the wider community to get involved and highlighting the positive impact that sport can have on wellbeing, confidence and social connection.

The partnership between Rugby for Heroes and the Armed Forces community is built on a shared set of core values. Leadership, teamwork, commitment, discipline, courage, respect, loyalty and camaraderie are central to both military life and the game of rugby. These values form the foundation of Rugby for Heroes’ work, helping veterans maintain a sense of identity and purpose as they move into civilian life.

Leaving the Armed Forces can present significant challenges, particularly when it comes to rebuilding routines, relationships and a sense of belonging. Rugby offers a familiar environment where veterans can reconnect with these shared values, develop new friendships and become part of a supportive community.

Through rugby clubs, coaching opportunities and wider community engagement, Rugby for Heroes helps create a network of support for those making the transition from military to civilian life. Its work reflects the importance of ensuring that no veteran has to face this next chapter alone.

As a partner, Veterans Welfare Group recognises the value of Rugby for Heroes’ commitment to supporting veterans through sport, community and shared purpose. Together, the organisations champion the importance of wellbeing, connection and continued support for those who have served their country.
